2. Matters outstanding –none
3. Chairs report
• Written report circulated.
• Chair began with summary of the events from past year – highlighting
the successful car boot sales and the culmination of the year’s
fundraising with the school fete – and the fantastic water fight.
• New events included the very popular Legoland trip and the interschool
quiz both of which raised funds while being very enjoyable – although
this year we hope to do better in the inter school quiz – our internal
quiz to be seen as a warm up.
• International food fair as always an excellent representation
of the different cultural backgrounds from within the school – and
an opportunity for some parents to support the PTA who otherwise find
it a challenge. Thanks to Diane Trebble, Yolanda Pitarch and all the
parents who contributed.
• School disco reintroduced this year with extra attention to health
and safety issues – a resounding success. Thanks to Janine Neye
and her team of helpers.
• PTA website launched – thanks to Chris Hainstock – who
has worked hard on this all year. Plans for this year include translation
into other languages to make even more inclusive.
• Gardening club – a great success – and the extra labour
from Sky over the summer has delivered improvements in previously uncared
for areas of the grounds. Thanks to Angela Martin and the team for moving
this forward.
• Comment on the finances – best fund raising year ever – so
thanks to all the parents and teachers who have made it such a success.
• Finally – it is not just about fund raising – although
the computer suite is a great testament to our ability to raise funds – it
is also an international school community open to ALL parents and teachers – and
our vision is to see more parents becoming involved.
4. Treasurer’s report
• Written report circulated.
• Treasurer highlighted the net figures for the year with over £25,000
profit made – the highest figure ever raised. An increase of £7,300
from the previous year.
• Major expenditure for the year was the IT suite investment of £16,500 – with
over £24,000 going to the school across the year.
• Current balance the PTA has is around £22,000 so at the
next meeting in November come along with suggestions on how this should
be spent.
• Question from the floor – Interest earned on the current
account – none received from Lloyds account – Treasurer agreed
this was an area to look into.
5. Headteacher’s
report
• Huge thank you to PTA for all that has been achieved and contributions
made. When preparing flyer for prospective new parents could not accommodate
all PTA activities.
• The money and support has enabled a full IT programme for pupils.
30 PCs purchased for IT suite. Enabled school to release funds to install
interactive white boards. All white boards now working. Laptops being
purchased for teachers – which will enable images to be accessed
immediately – with access to internet.
• Gardening activities driven by Angela Martin great addition. During
summer holidays Angela managed to rope in volunteers from Sky – who
worked all day improving school grounds. Sky’s involvement was
agreed because of their positive impressions of the contributions made
by parents.
• This year a number of changes. All teachers have to have 10% of
non contact time – which would cost the school £100k if resourced
in traditional ways. Montpelier has made a positive out of this in a
range of ways – by combining morning assembly / manipulating the
school day / and moving teachers around to teach other classes. Pupils
have benefited through experiencing languages, drama, sport etc.
• One of these activities is provided by Fit for Sport on Wednesday
and Friday afternoons – which is extended to an after school activity.
Traditionally teachers would run after school clubs – however with
statutory requirements to be met this is no longer feasible and new avenues
are being looked at. Montpelier is not high in the priority for lottery
funding to provide the after school activities so these need to be paid
for by those taking part in some way. Ultimately Montpelier is looking
to provide 4/5 days of after school activities.
• Key project for this year is to provide core literature for older
children to read with parents. Infants have Oxford reading tree however
Junior books are more ad-hoc. Aim is to get a set of books for a particular
year – 20 to 30 titles or children to read – to encourage
children to read with their parents – above and beyond the normal
books that they read.
• Finally – thanks again.

International Food Fayre – 18 November – Yolanda Pitarch

that the younger children do not feel overawed / intimidated by the
crowds. Very popular event – and a great fundraiser – as
quick and easy to organise.

Neye co-ordinating.
9. Any other business
1. Christmas Pantomime trip - SS reported that this is no longer
possible at Richmond theatre and there is a need to look for alternatives.
AR to check out with Questors theatre in Ealing whether this is an
option as a replacement.
2. Jean Turner- looking for qualified accountant
to audit the schools books – urgent need.
3. Gardening club – thanks from AM for all the support that
has been shown to the gardening club – school and parents. Anyone
who wants to get involved – all welcome – contact AM /
YP / NS.

organisation at school end – how to arrange collections without

the scheme can get going.
